Toddlers 2, Mom 0

Both boys love tromping in the snow regardless of their footwear. Returning from the grocery store the other day, I realized I could either fight them into the house and then try to bring in the groceries, herding them away from the door at each trip or I could let them romp in their sneakers for ten minutes and then just strip them down and warm them up when I was done. I went for the latter.

After the first trip into the house, I hear howling from the small boy. He’s face-planted into the snow in some sort of reverse snow angel and can’t get out. Now I don’t have boots on either but I trudge out to free him from his snowy hole, brush him off and go back for more groceries. On my next pass by, he’s done it again – the exact same thing! The howling is louder, his hands are red and freezing, he’s a snowy mess. I grab him under one arm, grab the last bag of groceries in the other and head in. The howling continues as he’s stripped of his wet clothes and shoes. I know this is not a shining Mom moment but all that was going through my head was, Dude, you did this to yourself. Humph.

Fun post! (Don’t worry, sometimes I call my son “dude” in my head too!)
